Course summary and requirements
This course involves a minimum of 12 hours contact teaching time and is normally run over 2 consecutive days. Students will be trained in the procedures, safety requirements and management skills for First Aid.
The course will cover:
· The importance of preventing cross infection
· The need for recording incidents and actions
· Use of available First Aid equipment
· Accessing the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly, and effectively in an emergency.
How to manage:
· CPR
· Unconsciousness including seizures
· Choking
· Wounds & bleeding
· Shock
· Injuries to bones, muscles and joints, including suspected spinal injuries
· Burns & scalds
· Eye injuries
· Poisoning
· Anaphylactic shock
· Major illness including heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma, diabetes
· Minor injuries including small cuts, grazes, bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters
Assessments
- 7 x Practical assessment
- 2 x Theory assessments (Multiple Choice Question Papers)
Prerequisite
No formal entry requirements needed must be aged 16 years or over and hold a regulated First Aid at Work certificate still within date of expiry, we will need to see the original certificate to confirm you are eligible to do the requalification.
We accept the following mapped (unregulated) First Aid at Work certificates to do the requalification:
